The Opposite Way™ Coaching

“The way is one, and the paths are many. We all need to go somewhere to restore our souls. We need to be on that path to recovery and to wholeness.”  bell hooks

What is The Opposite Way™ Coaching?

The Opposite Way™ Coaching is my proprietary process of supporting leaders who want to (a) stop reducing themselves and their leadership to limited beliefs about what 'good' leadership looks like, and (b) begin leading and living in the spirit of wholeness.

This coaching program views wholeness not as a perfect and neat destination, but instead as a wobbly, uncertain, yet sustainable process of connecting with our multi-layered selves over and over and over again. It is a journey of cultivating the capacity for - and taking up more - space.

My and my clients' experiences suggest that engaging this process is some of the greatest 'work' we could do even though many won't see us doing it. And that tending to this work only enhances our ability to more effectively and sustainably do the work of our lives in other more visible domains.

The Opposite Way™ coaching journey  includes 3 rites of passage that are cyclical in nature. They are as follows:

  1. Rest: during this part of our journey, we ask "Who?". That is "who is asking to go the opposite way™?" and "what steps may they already have taken in doing so?"  The coaching journey at this point offers prompts and practices to help you slow down enough to listen and remember who you are and the source of your inherent value.
  2. Dream:  in this part of our journey, we explore how you want to experience spaciousness at home and work. We take inventory of what is currently fulfilling (and hindering) your journey. As your coach, I support you as you imagine and dream your way to solutions to these hindrances.
  3. Expand:  this part of our journey invites you to take that wobbly step - to start working and living spaciously. I support you as you establish metrics of success that matter to YOU. I also offer accountability.

Who is The Opposite Way™ Coaching for?

  • Leaders who want to live and lead in the spirit of spaciousness - in humane, sustainable, and equitable ways
  • Leaders who want to release grinding as a symbol of their greatness.
  • Leaders who feel like they are succeeding in many visible ways in their work, but they have lost sight of their emotions, needs, values, and desires.
  • These might be thought leaders (think, academics) bracing themselves for mid-tenure or tenure packet submissions or paper revisions and wanting to be held in a container of peace and spaciousness in the process.
  • These might be lab leaders (think PI's) who want to lead their labs well, demonstrate sound decision making and leadership - while creating a culture of wholeness for all involved.
  • These might be community leaders (think, nonprofit or social enterprise directors and CEOs) who are orchestrating changes in our communities, states, nation, and world. They are juggling many clients while leading a team, and trying to preserve room for themselves and their needs in the process.
  • Whatever type of leader they are, these workers are tired, jaded, and maybe even feeling burned out.
  • They need something deeper to sustain them beyond the milestones, achievements, likes, and accolades.
  • They want 1:1 support as they begin or continue to take wobbly yet sustainable steps along the journey of wholeness.

If any of the above appeal to you, my 1:1 sessions (at least 12) may be the best fit for us to work together.
